general idea:

he got the tune from someone who told him that he composed it, and later he found out that it was taken from the eurovision. but still it sounds very jewish, and he wrte lyrics that are saying what will happen in the "Bias ha mashiach" (in the coming of the moshiach)

It's disgusing to me that a wonderful performer such as he, who wanted only to praise God with music, was put in a position of looking like HE stole a song.

HE DIDN'T! A supposedly-legitimate songwriter put his name to it, or at least said

How sick is it that someone stole a song for use on a **Jewish** album, when the original song had been performed by a GERMAN group called "Ghengis Khan", at Eurovision 1979 in ISRAEL???

As with anything in life it is always the person's achrayus (responsibility) to check out the sources. This is very basic and ignorance is not a defense either halachically or legally.

His "V'chol Ma'aminim" from his Rosh HaShana album of the same name used Carlebach's "Tov L'Hodos La'Hashem". This was another case in which he didn't know. Is he, the artist, obligated to check these things out? The supposed songwriter of Yidden had composed many original songs. It is MBD's name on the door, and he took some flak for the issue. So long as everybody got paid for the use of their material nobody's stealing in the name of God.
